Documents you need to sell

Title deed or proof of ownership, ID document, latest municipal rates account, approved building plans where they exist, and an electrical compliance certificate at transfer. For sectional title you also need a levy clearance figure.

RDP houses

An RDP house may generally not be sold within 8 years of registration without first offering it back to the provincial housing department. Check your title deed conditions before advertising.

Transfer costs

Buyers usually pay transfer duty (properties above the SARS threshold), conveyancing fees, deeds office fees and bond registration costs. Get a written quote from a conveyancer before you sign.

Avoiding scams

Never pay a deposit into a personal account. Verify ownership with a deeds office search. Meet at the property in daylight. Report suspicious listings with the REPORT LISTING button.
